Sharp Increase In California Disability Insurance Benefits
Beginning January 1, 2025, a new California law increases the amount of unemployment and wage replacement benefits available for low-wage employees under California's Paid Family Leave (PFL) program and State Disability Insurance (SDI) programs. Workers making less than the state's average wage (approximately $70,000 currently) may be eligible to receive 90% of their regular wages under the PFL and SDI programs for disabilities or covered incidents. This is a sizeable increase over the current percentage, which is between 60%-70%.
